Privacy Policy
This single policy describes how Luminescent Learning LLC ("Luminescent," "we," or "us") handles personal information for everyone who uses our websites and portals. We are based in Austin, Texas. The United States is our intended audience for this service.

For families (parents & guardians)
Trust & screening. We vet tutors before matching them with students. That includes background screening through a specialized provider (see the tutor section below for more detail on checks—we do not run the same screening on parents through that process).
What we collect from you. Account details (name, email, phone), intake information about your student (name, grade, school, subjects, goals, availability), session and billing records from the portal, payment-related identifiers from Stripe (we do not store full card numbers), optional referral codes you enter on intake, and technical data needed to run the site securely.
Who we serve. We primarily support students from about third grade through high school. We may occasionally work with adult learners when we agree to engage (for example, future offerings around skills like AI fluency), even though we do not primarily market to adults.
Referrals. If you use a friend's referral code, we store the code and link accounts to apply our referral rules described in the Terms of use.
For tutor applicants & tutors
Application data. We collect what you submit on the tutor application (including résumé uploads and written responses), account information, and onboarding acknowledgments.
Background checks (Checkr, Essential package). We use Checkr for U.S. tutor screening. Our standard package is Essential, which (per Checkr's public packaging) typically includes searches such as SSN trace, sex offender registry, global watchlist, national criminal search, and unlimited county criminal search. Package details and pricing may change; see checkr.com/pricing for current descriptions. We may receive report results in Checkr's dashboard or APIs to make eligibility decisions—not only a single "status" field. Checkr also provides consumer disclosures and candidate rights information you should review when you complete a check.
Vendor relationship. When we subscribe to Checkr as a business customer, their terms (including data-processing commitments where offered) govern how they process candidate data on our behalf. That contract layer is separate from this Privacy Policy but is part of how we operate compliantly.
How we use information
- Provide matching, accounts, portals, session logging, billing, referrals, and support.
- Send operational and transactional messages (e.g. invites, receipts, match updates).
- Verify identity, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with law.
- Improve reliability and security; analyze usage in aggregate if we add analytics later.
- Onboard and manage tutors, including screening steps we require.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the service:
- Service providers. Hosting, database, and authentication (e.g. Supabase); payments (e.g. Stripe); email delivery; background screening (Checkr) for tutors. They process data on our instructions with appropriate safeguards.
- Tutors and families. Contact and session information is shared between matched tutors and the relevant family to deliver tutoring.
- Legal. When required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity.
Marketing & notifications
For the MVP we do not use push notifications or SMS. We may add optional marketing email or analytics later; if we do, we will update this Policy and obtain consent or notice where required.
Retention
We retain information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. Exact retention varies by record type; contact us to discuss deletion where applicable.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the data we handle. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export certain personal information. Email the address in Contact above. We may verify your request before responding.
Children's information
Student information about minors is provided by a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has contacted us directly with personal information inappropriately, let us know and we will take appropriate steps.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date. Where required, we will seek additional acceptance in the product.
